Île-de-France Mobilités will expand open-loop contactless bank card payments across the Paris Metro network by July 2027 following successful trials on bus routes and airport rail links. This transition eliminates the friction of proprietary smart card acquisition for tourists and occasional riders, driving higher ridership and reducing the operational overhead associated with physical ticket kiosks and legacy media.
